Making Fishers of Men

Getting Close to Nature and God

Several times a year, from May to September, Overcomers International Fellowship/ Dream Center takes the residents on spiritual retreats to a small island about 50 miles away in New London, Minnesota, on the Crow River. This body of water is full of fish that seem to be hungry all the time. We troll and cast with spinner baits in the shallow weedy river and usually catch from three to seven fish an hour!

The Dream Center men find the joy of experiencing God's creation, campfires, fishing, and the Word of God. Many of these men have never been in the great outdoors or have only been there in early childhood. They return with a new desire to follow God's path.

"Pastor Michael Laidlaw's philosophy is that everyone, no matter what mistake they have made in the past, should still have the experience of the jerk on a fishing pole, the thrill of the fight, and the feeling like no other of landing the fish. Then the gratifying experience of cooking the catch and the fellowship of camping."
